Scientific study shows internet use changes human memory

Sometimes, I’m just lost without access to the internet. I know where the information is that I need or how to find it through googling.

In the past, I’ve spoken with others about this feeling of disconnect when the internet is down. They have also observed the feeling.

The iPad is also a great tool, if used correctly to help with recall of information in a meeting. There is nothing better then showing someone a browser page backing up your argument. Well at least for the time being until they work out how to respond.

The scientific paper referenced in this article seems to confirm this suspicion that some of us have had. The following quote seemed most pertinent.

"When people expect to have future access to information, they have lower rates of recall of the information itself and enhanced recall instead for where to access it."
